Derwiser Delivers Structured Campus Network for Bihar Animal Science University, Patna

Derwiser successfully implemented a structured campus networking solution for Bihar Animal Science University, Patna, enabling reliable digital connectivity across academic, administrative, and research facilities.

As many as 14 new buildings at Bihar Animal Sciences University in Patna have been completed with state-of-the-art facilities. Various academic, administrative, and residential structures on the 224.53-acre campus are being developed. The green building architecture on the university campus is equipped with modern technology and the latest equipment. Enhanced facilities for research and training are also being developed in this state-of-the-art facility. DERWISER, with its certified partner, delivered a well-organized IT backbone to support daily operations, centralized systems, and long-term digital expansion.

Project Background

Universities with diverse academic blocks, laboratories, administrative offices, and support facilities require predictable and dependable network performance.

For Bihar Animal Science University, the objective was to establish:

  • Structured horizontal connectivity across departments
  • A dependable backbone interconnecting campus blocks
  • A scalable foundation aligned with future IT growth

The emphasis was not just on speed but on network consistency and operational stability.

Project Requirements

Based on campus IT planning and infrastructure objectives, the following requirements were defined:

  • CAT6A LSZH cabling for horizontal connectivity, approximately 1.71 lakh meters for various connections for data, CCTV, Wi-Fi, access control, BMS, etc.
  • 10 Gbps performance over copper at the access layer with PoE Type 4 rating, complying with various end-device PoE requirements.
  • Single-mode optical fiber for backbone connectivity, approximately 20+ km for connecting all buildings with the data centre for seamless connectivity.
  • 10/40/100 Gbps performance over fibre across core links, as per end-user device core bandwidth requirements.
  • Infrastructure suitable for academic, administrative, and research environments for approximately 3,000 drops on copper end-to-end 10G connectivity.
  • Structured cabling designed for long-term maintainability for approximately 500+ connections on OFC to connect the entire campus backbone.

Deployment Approach

Derwiser followed a structured design methodology to ensure that each network layer had a defined and optimized role within the overall campus architecture.

The approach included:

  • Complying with and meeting the technical specifications of the RFP.
  • Understanding the requirements with Derwiser Certified Networking Partner (DCNP) and training site engineers to use correct installation practices to achieve maximized throughput.
  • Deploying CAT6A LSZH copper cabling for reliable access-layer connectivity
  • Implementing a single-mode fiber backbone to interconnect campus facilities
  • Structuring the network to separate access and backbone traffic
  • Designing the infrastructure to allow incremental upgrades without re-cabling and providing scope to increase the IT facility without disturbing the existing or already laid backbone.

The objective was to deliver consistent performance under daily load conditions while maintaining readiness for future enhancement.
